TeriO

Teri approaches health planning from a business perspective coupled with a clinical nursing background from a variety of settings, including nursing homes, orthopedics, medical / surgical units, bone marrow transplant, and adult and pediatric intensive care units. Her experience provides the ability to integrate the needs of the client with the expertise of the consultants and architects. Teri’s background includes facility utilization planning, financial feasibility and cost analysis, operations analysis, and program planning with hospitals, and freestanding clinics.

With nearly three decades of healthcare experience — including 15 years as a clinician providing specialty inpatient care, medical research, and ambulatory care — Susan brings an enterprise-level focus to medical planning and daily operations. She is expert at helping healthcare providers operationalize their strategic objectives: solving process and quality issues, engaging stakeholders, and integrating human experiences into operations planning and design. She not only leads planners and designers in early project phases, translating business goals  into design; she also remains integrated with the team through project delivery  and transition management, to ensure the facility operates at the highest levels of performance.

Janet S

A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt-certified professional and registered nurse, Janet combines healthcare planning and clinical expertise with Lean methodology and organizational strategy. Janet works to deliver flexible, efficient and patient- centered healthcare environments by applying Lean thinking at a project’s earliest stages, and by leading multi-disciplinary user groups with senior leadership and care providers. She also directs process improvement initiatives and helps providers transition into new facilities. Her operational design expertise has improved a range of inpatient and outpatient services—emergency departments, ORs, post- operational recovery, materials handling, labs, pharmacy and others—as well as ambulatory and pediatrics.

Tom F

Medical Planner

Tom has over 19 years of healthcare planning experience. He has been involved in all phases of project development including concept development, client interaction, design development, construction documentation and construction administration. Tom’s most recent role is that of Medical Planner for the New Orleans Veterans Administration replacement hospital where he was responsible the patient bed tower and other support services. He also served as senior planner for St. John Providence Park Hospital where he was responsible for all new design (beds, ED, Intervention/Surgery, Imaging, etc) as well as coordinating with the local architect on all renovation work. Tom is recognized by his peers and project teams for his leadership and organization skills.

Andrea R

Andrea’s professional career in medicine started by providing continuing medical education accreditation and has developed as she works to define and forecast the future of healthcare. Through Space and Functional Programming, Facility Analytics, Lean Program Planning, and Medical Equipment Planning, Andrea creates scenarios that help determine the needs of the client and the patient by eliminating inefficiencies and increasing satisfaction. Andrea’s ability to assess data and project volumes in a specific market service area allows the client to make sound business decisions. Her analyses of spatial relationships are used to optimize layouts for paths of travel, eliminating wasted space, and increasing departmental efficiencies.

Mark K

Mark is a trained hospital administrator who brings a collaborative approach to healthcare design and management. With five years of inpatient hospital experience managing administrative and clinical teams, strategy design projects and organizational programs, Mark brings a strong ability to facilitate change and mitigate risk in the dynamic healthcare environment. As a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, he believes in synthesizing team input to create optimal workflows, creative design and best practices. Prior to joining NBBJ, Mark was a quality improvement project manager with Providence Health & Services, providing support for a multitude of performance excellence and patient experience initiatives.

Rich D

As a leader of NBBJ’s national healthcare practice, Rich is responsible for ensuring that NBBJ understands the business, operational, human and environmental goals of our clients. This holistic understanding of our clients’ needs and aspirations forms the foundation for the creation of transformational environments that enable our clients to exceed each of their goals. Architecture allows Richard to integrate his broad interests in and knowledge of art and science in a field that is both applied and theoretical. He is an innovative designer with great versatility. His range of expertise includes healthcare, education, mixed-use commercial, retail, urban planning and campus planning.

Mary B

Mary has 23 years of healthcare experience in the biomedical equipment industry, both as a manager and technician. She has wide-ranging experience with variety of healthcare systems, researching equipment options and compiling that information into a clear format that enable her clients to make sound decisions. Mary brings leadership and strategic planning experience to every project she works on, with excellent communication skills that create strong rapport with clinicians, executives and engineers.

Kris K

Kris has been serving the healthcare industry through a variety of high-level administrative positions over the years including as a consultant, Chief Nursing Officer and hospital association executive. Kris now uses her problem-solving skills and deep knowledge of the hospital/healthcare industry to assist healthcare clients, both operationally and physically, transition safely and successfully to a newly built environment. Her capabilities in the area of healthcare design/human performance interface, project planning and execution, leading work groups, hospital and patient care administration, financial management, mentoring staff, quality improvement, relationship building, customer service and regulatory compliance bring a unique and extraordinary value to all her transition projects.
